Dry stone retaining walls can provide an attractive solution to problems created by sloping ground. They have the advantage of allowing ground water to drain away naturally while providing a haven for wildlife and scope for planting.

They are however engineered structures and highland stonecraft uses modern building materials where appropriate to enhance the attributes of stone on its own.
